My Learning Experience

After careful and systematic evaluation of myself, my academic field of study, and my future desired profession, I have found that my choice to pursue pre-PA during my undergraduate years is most definitely the best fit for me. Not only am I confident in my abilities to succeed in this profession, I am encouraged and motivated to achieve my goals because I have familiarized myself with the expectations of my future discourse community.Professional networks are certainly a new environment compared to the college student’s world, but the steps taken to ensure that one is able to enter in successfully are well within reach.

As the years progress, I now know that it is imperative that I begin to involve myself with the medical world through various academic interactions. For instance, jobs, internships and shadowing positions are excellent ways to gain experience in the field. In addition, these can help students to form connections with current medical professionals, many of whom are likely to be helpful when navigating the paths of grad schools and residencies. One of the best ways is by reading modern medical publications. As I learned by reading John Pekins’ article, reading is the key to writing, and vice versa. I need to be able to do both in order to succeed. I believe I am prepared to achieve status in my discourse community when the time comes and will be stepping into it with confidence intact.
